You´re stuck at home but want to travel? It doesn´t mean that you can´t travel at all! No matter if there is a global crisis you´re out of budget or just have no time to travel, there are plenty ways to get that feeling and satisfy your Wanderlust! Here are nine ideas of how to travel when you can´t leave home!

1. Learn A New Language

What is better than learning a new language? Myself, I speak German, English, a bit French, and very tiny Spanish! It´s enough to survive in a lot of countries! But still, I would love to have a serious talk with a local in Colombia or Cuba! So why not find ways to improve your language skills! There are great possibilities out there, and you don´t even need to go out for it! Try some apps like Babbel or italki or listen to a language learning podcast or look for an online teacher!

2. Cook Or Order An Authentic Dish From Your Favorite Country

One of my favorite things, while I´m in another country, is tasting all those different food and local dishes! Whether it´s a Gumbo in New Orleans, an Arepa in Cartagena, or a delicious CousCous dish in Marrakech, I love to taste it at least once! To find out how it tastes and, of course, if I like it! But when you´re not traveling but still have this hunger for it, why not trying to cook it by yourself? Find an authentic recipe online, get the ingredients, and start cooking! Or, if you prefer the easier way, find a food delivery service, order your favorite dish, and dine in!

3. Watch A Travel Themed Movie or Documentary

A trip without finding spectacular views, get those specific smells, listen to that local music, or soak up the vibes of a destination, is just half the fun! Watching some travel-themed movies or documentaries can get you that feeling!

And suddenly, all those streaming services are starting to make sense. I found a great article about The Best Travel Documentaries To Fuel Your Wanderlust here! It´s indeed an excellent list which I will go through myself, now that I have the time for it!

4. Read A Travel Themed Book

No worries, even if you have enough of watching TV, you can dive into the world of traveling the world. Find and read a Travel Themed Book, or travel guide, or bucket list inspiration books. I love to lose myself in the story of a good book and let my fantasy travel through that world!

5. Do A Virtual Tour

I recently found out that many museums around the world offer virtual tours through their exhibitions! Not only for museum lovers but also for those who like to step into another world! Why not tour the Louvre in Paris or the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York City. Find your favorite museum on this excellent list and take a tour without leaving your couch!

Also, a lot of zoos get creative with ways to connect to their animals! They create live chats or stream live videos from inside the zoo! Find out which zoos offer tours and online programs on this list!

You can even explore the National Park in the US if you like!

6. Put Your Travel Pics In A Photo Book Or Other Travel DIY Projects

What is always an issue for me is to tidy up all the pics that I took during a trip! When I´m away for a week, it can quickly go up to a thousand photos! A lot which might not be as perfect as I would them like to be. Or that I doubled or tripled because I tried several angles or perspectives! Usually, I never get rid of them, and I leave it as it is! But now that we all are stuck at home why not getting everything in order and maybe start a little DIY project out of it! What about putting all your favorite pics together and turn them into a travel photo book! Or create your world map with photos from your trips! Or print them and use them as postcards to send messages to your loved ones! Do you have more ideas? Awesome! Let´s get creative!

  1. Great List, I really enjoy planning my next trips but until the recent events of the pandemic i hadn’t really done much virtual touring, it really does get you excited for the next real opportunity to visit the city.

  2. Great list! I recently wrote a list on my blog as well and it is nice to see that we all come up with different things and can inspire each other to try out new activities while we are stuck at home 🙂

  3. Great tips! I think I’ll get my kids involved in researching possible future travel destinations when we get back to homeschooling next week!
